Some FAQs on New Gmail

The New Gmail was launched a little more than a month ago, and I thought it is time to take a look at the issues which are still troubling the common user. The questions are gleaned from the various threads I responded to or came across in the Gmail Help Forum, and I hope that this post manages to mention and answer most of them, if not all. How do I switch back to old (classic) Gmail? The answer is very simple. In New Gmail, click on the Gmail Settings (Gear) button and from the drop-down options, click the first one, "Go back to classic Gmail". Here is a screenshot to help you. I'm unable to find Contacts in new Gmail. No worries. Contacts can be found by clicking the 9-dot apps launcher in the top-right corner of the screen. Here is a screenshot: Of course, some may not see the Contacts app in amongst the apps when they click on the 9-dot apps launcher. Like the screenshot below. Experiencing the New Gmail - How to access Contacts from New Gmail

I ended my first blog with "Oh! in case you are wondering how to quickly access Contacts from New Gmail, use the 9-dot Google apps launcher that’s to the left of the Notifications icon top-right of the screen." As it turned out, not many were aware of this, and for those who were, many were unable to locate Contacts among the first set of icons visible upon clicking the 9-dot Google apps launcher. This will reveal an additional set of Google product icons and Contacts will be included in there. Click on the Contacts icon, and while pressing down the button, drag the Contact icon and move it upwards amid the first set of visible icons and drop it there. When you next click on the 9-dot Google apps launcher, you will see Contacts among the first set of icons Here is a D

Experiencing the New Gmail - Recovering Deleted Drafts

This was indeed the sweetest surprise included in New Gmail. For years, I have consistently sent feedback on how there should be an option to send discarded drafts in Gmail to Trash instead of them being permanently removed upon selecting that option. So, I was genuinely surprised to find out that in New Gmail: You can also delete drafts besides discarding them as you would in Classic Gmail. Deleted drafts end up in Trash and can be recovered from there much like a regular message or conversation. Clicking on the Discard drafts button permanently removes the selected draft as before. Here is my video on this topic. I guess the only thing left to do now for the team is to replace the Discard drafts button with the Delete button because with the Delete and Recovery options available for drafts, makes the Discard option seem inferior and redundant.
