I ended my first blog with "Oh! in case you are wondering how to quickly access Contacts from New Gmail, use the 9-dot Google apps launcher that’s to the left of the Notifications icon top-right of the screen."
As it turned out, not many were aware of this, and for those who were, many were unable to locate Contacts among the first set of icons visible upon clicking the 9-dot Google apps launcher. What to do then?
The solution is fairly simple. For those unable to see Contacts among the first set of icons visible upon clicking the 9-dot Google apps launcher:
- Click on the More link below. This will reveal an additional set of Google product icons and Contacts will be included in there.
- Click on the Contacts icon, and while pressing down the button, drag the Contact icon and move it upwards amid the first set of visible icons and drop it there.
- When you next click on the 9-dot Google apps launcher, you will see Contacts among the first set of icons
Here is a DIY video of how to resolve this issue.
Why did you make it so difficult to get to contacts?
ReplyDeletePlease understand that I didn't make things difficult for you and the steps shown above is now the only way to access Contacts from both the classic and/or new Gmail.
DeleteThe access to the Contacts Preview UI via the 9-dot apps-launcher has been available for some time now. But, most of us have been so accustomed to accessing Contacts via the top-left Gmail drop-down menu that we were not aware of this alternative, and has been affected the most by this change.
There are other ways to easily access Contacts. If you have Keyboard shortcuts enabled in Gmail (you can read this for more info: https://support.google.com/mail/answer/6594?co=GENIE.Platform%3DDesktop&hl=en), all you need to do is type "g and c" to go to Contacts.
The third easy option is to create a bookmark of the https://contacts.google.com/ page.
