This was indeed the sweetest surprise included in New Gmail.
For years, I have consistently sent feedback on how there should be an option to send discarded drafts in Gmail to Trash instead of them being permanently removed upon selecting that option. So, I was genuinely surprised to find out that in New Gmail:
For years, I have consistently sent feedback on how there should be an option to send discarded drafts in Gmail to Trash instead of them being permanently removed upon selecting that option. So, I was genuinely surprised to find out that in New Gmail:
- You can also delete drafts besides discarding them as you would in Classic Gmail.
- Deleted drafts end up in Trash and can be recovered from there much like a regular message or conversation. Clicking on the Discard drafts button permanently removes the selected draft as before.

I guess the only thing left to do now for the team is to replace the Discard drafts button with the Delete button because with the Delete and Recovery options available for drafts, makes the Discard option seem inferior and redundant.
