Make a Google Contacts Group (Label) directly from Gmail

Gmail is known to offer several shortcuts with regards to Google Contacts. One such handy shortcut is the ability to create a new Google Group (Labels) directly from Gmail without requiring to visit the Google Contacts page at https://contacts.google.com/. What is even more helpful is that the feature allows you to do this in two different ways - before and after inserting contacts in the Gmail Compose window Recipients' section. Before inserting contacts in the Gmail Compose window Recipients' section. Click on the To:/Cc:/Bcc: link in Gmail It will pop open the Contact selector window. "My Contacts" will show up as the default contact group indicated by the red rectangle, I have manually changed it to show a test contact group. Now you need to select some or all contacts as required by checking the boxes next to their name or the Select All box above. Once done, click on the Manage labels button above, as highlighted. This will show a list of all available Google Co

Forwarding emails from Gmail to Google Groups

Google Groups is a very versatile platform that allows someone to create a community or workspace for their various needs. Depending on the requirement, the Group can be set up in different formats and thereafter further customized as needed. One of the inconveniences of working with the free version of Google Groups is that the email address comes in the format group-name@googlegroups.com which is perhaps not the best email option any business person or a professional would like to share with others, particularly outsiders or prospective clients. As a norm, most would like to share their own Gmail addresses. The trouble there would be that many wouldn't know how to ensure responses to their emails would arrive in the Google Groups, which is what we shall explore in this blog.  Since there are a couple of Google products involved in this matter, we would need to ensure the necessary settings in Google Groups first before initiating the forwarding process from Gmail. Creating a Draft or Template response from a received email

This blog is inspired by a suggestion mentioned as a feature request on Twitter, where I often visit to answer questions related to Gmail and Google Accounts.  The suggestion was about including an option to make drafts from received email with attachments, without going through the rigmarole of downloading and uploading attachments and also to create a Template response out of it. Given what Gmail presently has. it is possible to make both those things happen. Ideally, the second option should be a "No", because one of the known deficiencies of the Template responses is that it won't take in the attachment file, which is central to this blog. However, a workaround exists, which we shall use. To begin, here is the test email that we propose to convert into a draft and later into a Template response. It has some text content and a PDF file as an attachment. The first thing we do is to save the attachment in Google Drive by hovering the mouse pointer over the attachment and

Bringing over emails (Part 2 of 3): Yahoo! emails into Gmail

Recently, the Gmail Help Community has received quite a few queries on this topic involving AOL, Yahoo!, and Outlook accounts. As an attempt towards making the users more comfortable by making the process more visual for them using screenshots, this three-part blog aims to explore the three inbuilt Gmail processes through which one can bring over emails from another account over to a Gmail account. Following the first part where we looked at how to bring over emails from an AOL account, we shall look at how we can bring over emails from a Yahoo! account in this second part. The final part will be on how to bring over emails from a Hotmail account. It is best to mention it upfront that like my AOL account, my Yahoo! account also has 2-step verification enabled. If you would like to enable it for your Yahoo! account, refer to instructions here:  https://help.yahoo.com/kb/add-two-step-verification-extra-security-sln5013.html .  If you do not have 2-step verification to your Gmail acc
