Issue while attempting to add Gmail to your non-Gmail Google Account

Of late, many users have reported receiving the "We are sorry, but you do not have access to Gmail. Please contact your Organization Administrator for access." message while attempting to add Gmail to their non-Gmail Google accounts which are also not Google Workspace accounts.

Normally, users would need to follow the steps mentioned in the "Adding Gmail" help article: https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/72198?hl=en, but the current complaint is that, after being signed into their non-Gmail account and clicking on the 9-dot Google apps launcher icon and then, the Gmail icon, they receive the following message.

Apparently, something is not working as intended and after looking at the URL, we can spot a redirection to the https://admin.google.com/a/cpanel/... URL.

The cPanel feature and why it is essential to activate for Gmail in Google Workspace domains is explained in this help article: https://support.google.com/a/answer/54717?hl=en. As seen, the check fails for that specific domain in the non-Gmail address (hotmail.com in this case) and the error message is shown.

The fix (until Google resolves this), for this issue is to simply change the URL in the address bar to https://accounts.google.com/addmailservice. Once done, we get taken to the "Add Gmail to your Google Account" page prefilled with the current non-Gmail Google account address and the phone number if previously listed on the account.

Thereafter, it is a simple process of following the prompt to add the new Gmail address to your non-Gmail Google account.

  1. I received a comment, "Hi sir .. *******70@gmail.com my Gmail account i lost my phone i forgot my Gmail password and back up code i have my phone number link to Gmail account but i don't have to recovery Gmail plz help me". SInce it contained personal information, I could not post it here, but I shall respond to it none the less.

You can try using your common passwords or check where your passwords are saved in one of your desktop or browsers. As for the 2SV backup codes, you were supposed to keep it safe and separate from both your account and your device.

The way Google Account recovery works these days, if you do not have what the system asks to verify your identity with, your account may remain irretrievable.

Revisiting Canned Responses (Templates) in Gmail

I wrote my first blog on Canned Responses here - Exploring the Advanced Tab in Gmail Settings: About Canned Responses , noting "Believe it or not, there is no article on Canned Responses in the Gmail Help Centre. Probably because it has always been a lab feature in the past and now included under the Advanced tab under Gmail settings in new Gmail. So, today we take a look at this very popular feature in Gmail and the different ways we can use it.". That has remained the case, so with a change of UI, there is a need to rewrite the tutorial on how we can perform the following functions for a Canned Response or as they are now known, Templates . Create a Template Insert a Template Edit or Overwrite a Template Delete a Template Thankfully, the pre-requisites haven't changed. To start using Templates in Gmail, it needs to be enabled from the Advanced tab under Gmail settings. As always, be sure to click on the Save Changes button on the bottom of the page.
