Exploring the Advanced Tab in Gmail Settings: About Preview Panes

In the second post on our three-part series "Exploring the Advanced Tab in Gmail", we talk about Preview Panes which offers a similar viewing experience that many of us see in email clients such as Thunderbird and Outlook.

Preview Panes needs to be enabled from the Advanced tab under Gmail settings. As always, be sure to click on the Save Changes button at the bottom of the page after selecting the Enable option.
Once Gmail reloads, you will notice a new icon in your Gmail inbox - the Toggle split-pane mode icon. Clicking on the drop-down arrow next to the toggle split-mode icon will offer you the No split, Vertical split and Horizontal split options.
Here is a screenshot with the split-pane mode toggled OFF or No Split option:
And the screenshots with the split-pane mode toggled ON for Vertical and Horizontal splits:

Enabling Preview Pane will also add this extra option under the General tab in Gmail settings.

Revisiting Canned Responses (Templates) in Gmail

I wrote my first blog on Canned Responses here - Exploring the Advanced Tab in Gmail Settings: About Canned Responses , noting "Believe it or not, there is no article on Canned Responses in the Gmail Help Centre.
