Using Google Contact Labels (Groups) in the Gmail Android app

One of the most persistent feature requests from the Gmail mobile app users is to be allowed the benefit of using the contact labels (previously called Groups) set up in the Google contacts manager to send out emails.  That's because the contact labels created in the Google Contacts manager at https://contacts.google.com/ can't be used in other places except for the Gmail standard web UI accessible via https://mail.google.com/ . It also meant that those contact labels or groups stayed out of bounds for users who would use the Gmail Android or iOS app.  The Google Contacts Android app seems to have been made things just a bit better for the Gmail Android mobile app users. To be able to use the Google Contact labels in the Gmail Android app, download and install the Google Contacts app from the Play Store. Once installed, it will display the Contacts for the Google address as well as the Contact labels.  To be able to see the Contact labels, tap on the 3

Accessing Gmail Standard View from your mobile phone

At times, for various reasons, we need to access the Gmail standard view and all we have with us is our mobile phone. The standard view is only accessible via supported desktop browsers and I have seen many users in the Gmail Help Community inconvenienced while having to access the Gmail standard view from their mobile devices. Hence, this blog. For the sake of convenience, I have decided to list the steps separately for Android phone and iPhone. Click on the links below to directly go to the section that describes the steps for your device. Steps for Android Steps for iPhone For testing purposes, I have chosen to use Chrome on my Android phone and Safari on my iPhone as they are the commonly used browsers in those devices respectively, and are likely to benefit the maximum number of users.  I have also ensured that the browsers are running their latest versions. Additionally, I have included the screenshot of how to request Desktop Site in Chrome browser for iOS. In th

Schedule Send in Gmail

On April 1, 2019, Google announced the Schedule send feature for Gmail which would allow the user to send out a composed email at a later date and time. This feature is available on Gmail web UI as well as the Gmail iOS and Android mobile apps. The scheduling process begins once you have completed composing the email. In Gmail web UI, you click on the down-arrow next to the blue Send button and then, click on the Schedule send option that appears above. In the Gmail Android app, you would need to click on the 3-dot (more) menu in the top right and from the options, select Schedule send. In the Gmail iOS app, you'd need to click on the 3-dot (more) menu in the top right and from the options which appear in the bottom of the screen, select Schedule send. Hereafter, it is simply the matter of choosing the date and time you want the email to send out. The first picture below shows the set of scheduling options and the second one shows the screen if you hap

Experiencing the New Gmail: Sending an email using Confidential Mode

Update on April 2019 : I am reviewing my older blogs for possible updates and realized this one lacked screenshots from Android and iOS devices. So, I am updating this blog with the relevant screenshots and some necessary details. Google explains Gmail's Confidential Mode as where the recipients will not have the option to forward email contents, copy/paste, download, nor print. You can use these options to protect sensitive information. When you send the email, your recipient will get a notification about the limits you've selected. The process is very simple. Click on Compose as you would for any regular email. Then click on the icon as is shown in the picture below. In your Gmail Android app, click on the 3-dot (more) menu at top right, and from the options, click on Confidential Mode.   Ditto on your Gmail iOS app. Clicking on the icon (or selecting the Confidential mode option in the Gmail mobile app) will open up a window/screen where you would n
