Adding Images to Gmail Signature from Drive through the web URL

In my blog on Adding Image Hyperlinks in Gmail signature, I had discussed ways to insert an image to your Gmail signature from your computer or via a web URL. Soon thereafter, I became aware of an issue where images were inserted into the Gmail signature from Google Drive via web URL. To better explain, here are the steps:

  • An image in Google Drive is set to "Anyone with the link" and the sharing URL copied.
  • The Insert image icon in the Gmail signature area clicked, the Web URL tab chosen and the copied Drive URL pasted and the image is previewed correctly.
  • The blue Select button is clicked. It is then the issue is noted. The image element is inserted, but as a placeholder and the image is not visible.

The steps to resolve this issue are included below:
  • The Insert image icon in the Gmail signature area clicked, the Web URL tab chosen and the copied Drive URL pasted and the image is previewed correctly.
  • Now, instead of clicking on the blue Select button, right click on the "Open image in new tab" option.

  • This opens the image in a new browser tab, with a URL beginning with "https://lh#.googleusercontent.com/...". We copy that URL and paste it in the Gmail signature web address URL field.

  • Now clicking on the blue Select button correctly inserts the image in the Gmail signature field.
  • To complete, click on the "Save Changes" button at the bottom of the page.

    1. Not to my knowledge. But cab you check if this happens in just one or multiple accounts for you?

  2. I was so excited by this solution but it just doesn't work. The image still doesn't show up even after copying and pasting the link from the image opened in a new tab.

Revisiting Canned Responses (Templates) in Gmail

I wrote my first blog on Canned Responses here - Exploring the Advanced Tab in Gmail Settings: About Canned Responses , noting "Believe it or not, there is no article on Canned Responses in the Gmail Help Centre. Probably because it has always been a lab feature in the past and now included under the Advanced tab under Gmail settings in new Gmail. So, today we take a look at this very popular feature in Gmail and the different ways we can use it.". That has remained the case, so with a change of UI, there is a need to rewrite the tutorial on how we can perform the following functions for a Canned Response or as they are now known, Templates . Create a Template Insert a Template Edit or Overwrite a Template Delete a Template Thankfully, the pre-requisites haven't changed. To start using Templates in Gmail, it needs to be enabled from the Advanced tab under Gmail settings. As always, be sure to click on the Save Changes button on the bottom of the page.
