Unable to view some labels in Gmail

We see lots of questions on this topic in the Gmail Help Forum and in my opinion, this is one of the topics which requires some detailed explanation because there could be different reasons behind this. Your labels could be collapsed. We have previously discussed how the new Gmail comes with "collapsible" left panel label options. So, the first option is to check if that is why you are unable to view your labels. Here are the comparative screenshots of how the left panel looks when collapsed and expanded.   If this is the case, simply clicking on the 3-bar option, as is indicated by the arrow in the second screenshot will allow the left-panel to remain expanded for your easy navigation. You need to scroll the Labels section or drag-down/hide the Hangouts Chat section. By default, the Hangouts Chat list is placed on the bottom-left corner of the screen, sharing the same panel with labels. You have three options to resolve this. (a) Use the scrollbar indicat...

Experiencing the New Gmail: Reading an email sent using Confidential Mode

In this blog, we shall examine several scenarios. Scenario A: Email received in a Gmail account with SMS passcode required . Opening the message in inbox shows us the option to click on the button to send the password to the phone number. It is important to remember that the recipient never gets to see the full number the code is sent to. So, if after a few tries you are unable to receive the code, it is better to confirm the accuracy of the number with the sender. Otherwise, it is better to have a word with your cellular service provider.   Once the passcode is received on your phone, simply enter the code and click on the blue submit button to view the message. Scenario B: Email received in a Gmail account with no SMS passcode required. No additional hassles, you simply click to open the message from your Gmail inbox.   Scenario C: Email received in a non-Gmail account with SMS passcode required. I have decided to use my Hotmail account as the non...

Experiencing the New Gmail: Sending an email using Confidential Mode

Update on April 2019 : I am reviewing my older blogs for possible updates and realized this one lacked screenshots from Android and iOS devices. So, I am updating this blog with the relevant screenshots and some necessary details. Google explains Gmail's Confidential Mode as where the recipients will not have the option to forward email contents, copy/paste, download, nor print. You can use these options to protect sensitive information. When you send the email, your recipient will get a notification about the limits you've selected. The process is very simple. Click on Compose as you would for any regular email. Then click on the icon as is shown in the picture below. In your Gmail Android app, click on the 3-dot (more) menu at top right, and from the options, click on Confidential Mode.   Ditto on your Gmail iOS app. Clicking on the icon (or selecting the Confidential mode option in the Gmail mobile app) will open up a window/screen where you would ...
